Tube thickness measurement is a regular monitoring activity for all solid fuel fired boiler, which takes considerable time and manpower during AOH with the conventional UT technique. Also, since this test requires surface preparation and application of a liquid couplant between the tube surface and probe, thickness measurement is limited to few localized area.
A non-contact method that can work with robotic application could be the answer. EMAT (Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducers) is one such technology.
We invite our community members to share their experience/ difficulties, discuss the pros and cons of this technology, or any other technology that they may suggest in search of an appropriate technology solution and vendors.
